Why Aromatherapy?

Category: Health and Wellness
By Janice Pang

In this fast-paced society that we are living in today, depression has become quite a common sight as the general stress level of the public increases with the intensity of the workload. Be it demands from work, pressure from school or relationship problems, there is definitely a point in our time of lives that we wish to be free from all the heavy burdens weighing down on us. Following this occurrence, the market has come up with several therapeutic products to aid people in relieving their stress.

Many may then start to consider which therapy they should use and if you were to ask me, I would recommend aromatherapy. Why? Some may ask and the answer to that is simple. Aromatherapy allows people to gain easy access to it. Despite being costly, it is nevertheless one of the safest and least bothersome methods as essential oils are harmless when used correctly and it only requires the users to follow simple instructions.

Like most other therapies, aromatherapy alleviates stress, promotes relaxation, improves general health and even provides minor first aid. However, there are different applications of aromatherapy to bring about the various therapeutic effects and these are classified as below:

Massage
An aromatherapist will design an individual whole body massage based on medical history of the patient. The oils will be selected specifically to match the temperament of the patient and also to tackle any other medical or emotional problems which may be disturbing him or her. For self-massage, the techniques are not difficult to learn and can be carried out at home.

Bathing and showering
Bathing in essential oils can kindle and revitalize or relax and calm depending on the oils selected. Rosemary and pine have comforting effects on tired or aching limbs; chamomile and lavender are good for relieving insomnia.

Compresses
Compresses are useful in treatment of muscular aches and pains, as well as headaches, which are all common when under stressful conditions. Simply apply soak an absorbent material in the essential and compress on the area required. Relief of pain will be felt almost instantaneously

As mentioned earlier, aromatherapy might be costly but it is definitely recommended for reducing stress in both students and working adults. Furthermore, people can easily purchase it and safely use it at home. So what are you waiting for? Let aromatherapy do the magic for you today!
